A splinter

I get a fair number of nicks and scratches on my hands when I’m working in the shop (not from accidents, just from being a bit rough as I handle wood and saw blades and whatnot). A few weeks ago, I sliced my thumb on a sharp edge while sanding the Aster sofa frame. As it turns out, I actually took a piece of wood with me that’s been residing in my thumb ever since. This last weekend, I was looking at the wound, and gave my thumb a squeeze, and a whole quarter inch of splinter slid right out:
